I originally planned on heading to the Gala to see my friend Toni Mundo perform. Still, little did I know that this was supposed to be a ceremonial celebration highlighting Mid City Mercado’s transition to a non-profit, which makes it possible for them to be a better resource for creatives in the community and for their people.

The Gala featured several artistic pieces, including photographs, sculptures, and a beautiful zine, all created by community members and supporters alike. The night was excellent, the air was full of love, and the people were here to celebrate above all else.

The Gala served as a reminder to focus on legacy and community. We are the ancestors, and we set the pace for those who come after us. All love to Mid City Mercado.
